The N.E.S.T._New Earth Species Thinktank project at the European Capital of Culture Salzkammergut 2024 in Bad Ischl is currently becoming more and more real and from July 19th to 21st you have the chance to take part in our earth building workshops at N.E.S.T. to participate. We will slip into a former Kaiserhotel basement and nest there.
Participation is free of charge for you or is based on voluntary donations, but we still ask you to book a timeslot so that we don't have too many participants per appointment. Thanks!
From July 19th to 21st, timeslots will be allocated for 15 participants per day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anton Auer, clay builder and workshop leader, and the project artists Josseline Engeler, Ruth Größwang and Robert Angerer will visit the N.E.S.T. together with the visitors. build with a COB mixture of clay, sand and straw. The preparation of the supporting structure made of wood, the processing of the material and the actual plastering of the supporting structure are taught professionally. The nest. is both a mediation site and a spatial installation. It is craftsmanship in the work of art. An artistic research station whose experimental and symbiotic character is in the foreground.
There will be further workshops, events and exhibitions at N.E.S.T. .

These rammed earth objects are part of our lecture „Collective Countryside“ which copes with different collective & solidaric concepts in both agriculture and art. We research together with our students about different ecological, social & artistic visions for human life on planet Earth. The „Social Objects“ you can see here have been designed and built collectively throughout one intensive lastweek out of rammed earth by all the students of the lecture. At night you can light a fire inside the two higher ones, which are covered by a ceramic fire bowl. Join! Build a circle around them and talk to each other in it’s flames shine, enjoy their pleasant warmth. The smaller one might be used as a speaker‘s-corner-like little stage, or a table or a seat. Any other ideas? The material loam, the soil itself remains open and tells about a long forgotten construction knowledge, confusing industrial decisions in the history of architecture & various options for our future

The presence of emptiness. The uselessness of completely shut and barricaded buildings. A window full of bricks and a door locked with a tightened chain.

Presentation of the site-specific works Josseline Engeler and Renato Atuati developed within one month at the residency program DE LICEIRAS 18.
